Sentence & Summary Completion
Fill the gaps with words from the passage — and never break the word limit.
What you have to do
Complete sentences or a summary using words from the passage. The instructions give a word limit, e.g. NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS.
Step by step
- Read the instructions twice. Circle the word limit.
- Look at the gap and predict what type of word fits: noun, verb, number, adjective?
- Scan for the key words (or synonyms) around the gap.
- Copy the word exactly as it is spelled in the passage.
- Read the full sentence with your answer. Is the grammar correct?
Common traps
- Too many words. "the old library" is three words. If the limit is two, write "old library".
- Changing the word form. If the passage says "collection", don't write "collected".
- Spelling. A correct answer spelled wrong is marked wrong.

Answer: decade. "almost" = "nearly"; the gap needs a noun.
