Task 2: A Simple Essay Structure
Four paragraphs, clear ideas, 250+ words — a structure that works for every question.
The four paragraphs

Plan for 5 minutes first
Write down: my answer, idea 1 + example, idea 2 + example. Planning makes your essay clear — and clarity is a big part of your band score.
Linking words
- Adding: Furthermore, In addition, Moreover
- Contrast: However, On the other hand, Although
- Example: For example, For instance, such as
- Result: As a result, Therefore, Consequently
Don't put a linking word at the start of every sentence — two or three per paragraph is enough.
Check at the end (3 minutes)
- Did I answer every part of the question?
- Is my opinion clear in the introduction and the conclusion?
- Articles (a/the), plurals (-s) and subject–verb agreement.
