What you have to do

Fill in a form or notes while you listen — usually names, addresses, phone numbers, dates and prices.

Before the audio

1. Read the gaps and predict: a number? a name? a day?
2. Notice the word limit (e.g. ONE WORD AND/OR A NUMBER).

While listening

• Names are spelled out. Know the English alphabet well — especially A / E / I, G / J, B / V, M / N.
• "Double" means two of the same letter or number: double-l = LL, double five = 55.
• "Oh" is often said for zero in phone numbers.
• Corrections! Speakers often change their mind: "It's on Tuesday — oh no, sorry, Wednesday." The last answer is the right one.

Common traps

• 13 vs 30, 15 vs 50. Listen for the stress: thirTEEN vs THIRty.
• Plural endings. "boxes" and "box" are different answers.
• Dates: "the third of May" can be written 3 May or May 3rd — both are fine.
